"Desire vs. Blessing: Learning to Appreciate What You Already Have"

coachmehreenali

We all have a never-ending list of desires. No matter how many things we check off that list, new ones seem to appear right behind them. This ongoing cycle of wanting, achieving, and desiring is a natural part of life. Our desires propel us forward, motivating us to strive and pursue what we think we need.

However, there are times when our desires, particularly those that remain unfulfilled or unattainable, can create inner turmoil. It's easy to become consumed by wanting something we can't have. But perhaps, it's worth exploring the idea that the very thing we truly need might be right in front of us.

Maybe we're using an unfulfilled desire as a way to avoid fully appreciating the blessings we already have. While it may seem odd, we often fall into this trap. It's easier to recognize in others than in ourselves — we’ve all seen someone longing for qualities they already possess, or wishing for something they already have but can’t see. A friend might envy a partner you have, or complain about a situation that others would wish for. If only they could see things from our perspective!

This tendency isn't unique to others. We might also be guilty of overlooking the blessings in our own lives. There's comfort in the chase, and sometimes, we get so wrapped up in pursuing the next goal that we forget to enjoy the beauty of what we've already attained — like a child who’s always after the toy just out of reach, never fully appreciating the one in their hands. Today, take a moment to reflect on the gifts and blessings you currently hold in your life. Embrace and cherish them, for they might be exactly what you need.
